Drugs For Constipation

Indication Dosage

Bisacodyl is a medication that is primarily used to treat constipation. It works by stimulating the bowel muscles to increase bowel movements. It is also sometimes used to prepare for certain medical procedures, such as colonoscopies, by emptying the bowel.

Constipation: 

Oral: 

  • Adult: 10-20 Mg Once Daily At Night. 
  • Children 4-17 Years: 5-20 Mg Once Daily, Adjusted According To Response, At Night. 

By Rectum: 

  • Adult: 10 Mg Once Daily, In The Morning. 
  • Children 2-17 Years: 5-10 Mg Once Daily, Adjusted According To Response. 

Bowel Clearance Before Radiological Procedures And Surgery: 

Oral: 

  • Adult: 10 Mg Twice Daily, In Themorning And Evening On The Day Before the Procedure And (by Rectum) 10 Mg, 1-2 Hours Before Procedure The Following Day. Tablets Act In 10-12 Hours; Rectal Suppositories Act In 20-60 Min.

Content

  • Tab 5mg: Bisacodyl 5mg.
  • Rectal Suppositories5mg /10mg: Bisacodyl 5mg /10mg.

Contra Indications

  • Acute Abdominal Conditions, Acute Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Acute Surgical Abdominal Conditions Intestinal Obstruction, Severe Dehydration, Undiagnosed Abdominal Conditions.

Lactation

Side Effects

  • Abdominal Cramp
  • Colitis
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea And Hypokalaemia (excessive Use)
  • Local Irritation With Rectal Use.
