Indication Dosage

Indication: 

Calcium Chloride is a medication used to treat conditions related to low levels of calcium in the body. It is prescribed by doctors for the following purposes:

  • Hypocalcemia: Calcium Chloride is given to raise low levels of calcium in the blood, which can occur due to various medical conditions, including certain kidney disorders, vitamin D deficiency, or after surgery.
  • Cardiac Arrest: In emergency situations, Calcium Chloride may be used to help restart the heart during a cardiac arrest when other measures have failed.
  • Hyperkalemia: It can be used to counteract high levels of potassium in the blood when other treatments are not effective.

Dosage:

Cardiac Arrest In Presence Of Hyperkalaemia Or Hypocalcaemia, Magnesium Toxicity, Or Calcium Antagonist Toxicity: 

By IV Inj Or IV Infusion: 

  • Adults: 2-4 Mg/kg; May Repeat In 10 Min If Necessary. 
  • Infants & Children: 20 Mg/kg; May Repeat In 10 Min If Necessary. 

Hypocalcaemia: 

By IV Inj Or IV Infusion: 

  • Adults: 500 Mg To 1 Gm/dose; Every 6 Hr 
  • Infants & Children: 10-20 Mg/kg/dose; Repeat Every 4-6 hours if Needed. Hypocalcaemia

Secondary To Citrated Blood Transfusion: 

By IV Inj Or IV Infusion: 

  • Adults: 1.35meq Elemental Calcium For Each 100 Ml Citrated Blood Transfused Neonates: 0.45meq Elemental Calcium For Each 100 Ml Citrated Blood Infused. 

Hypocalcaemic Tetany: 

By IV Inj Or IV Infusion: 

  • Adults: 1gm Over 10-30 Min; May Repeat After 6 Hrs 
  • Infants & Children:10mg/kg Over 5-10 Min; May Repeat After 6 Hrs

  • Inj: Calcium Chloride 10% (100mg / ml). Elemental Calcium 27.2mg / ml (1.4 Meq Calcium / ml)
