Aprepitant is a medication used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. It is typically given in combination with other anti-nausea drugs. Aprepitant works by blocking a specific neurotransmitter in the brain, substance P, which is involved in triggering the vomiting reflex. It is available in oral and injectable forms and is typically administered before chemotherapy treatment. Aprepitant is not effective for treating nausea and vomiting caused by other conditions.
Preventing Nausea And Vomiting Associated With Emetogenic Chemotherapy (adjunct To Dexamethasone And A 5ht3-receptor Antagonist):
- Adult: Initially 125 Mg, Dose To Be Taken 1 Hour Before Chemotherapy, Then 80 Mg Once Daily For 2 Days, Consult Product Literature For Dose Of Concomitant Corticosteroid And 5ht3-antagonist
