Modafinil is a prescription medication primarily indicated for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder. It is a wakefulness-promoting agent that helps individuals stay awake and alert when their natural sleep-wake cycle is disrupted or when they experience significant daytime drowsiness due to these conditions. Modafinil is not a substitute for proper sleep, but it can improve wakefulness and cognitive function in those affected by these sleep-related disorders.
Excessive Sleepiness Associated With Narcolepsy With Or Without Cataplexy:
- Adult: Initially 200 Mg Daily In 2 Divided Doses, Dose To Be Taken In The Morning And At Noon, Alternatively Initially 200 Mg Once Daily In The Morning, Adjusted According To Response To 200-400 Mg Daily In 2 Divided Doses Or Once Daily
- Elderly: Initially 100 Mg Daily
