Metronidazole is a pharmaceutical medication commonly prescribed to treat a range of bacterial and parasitic infections. It is primarily indicated for conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, and certain types of anaerobic bacterial infections, including those in the gastrointestinal tract. Metronidazole works by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms and is particularly effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
