Indication Dosage

Interferon Alfa-2a is a medication used to treat certain viral infections, such as hepatitis B and hepatitis C. It can also be prescribed for certain types of cancer, like melanoma or hairy cell leukemia. Additionally, it may be used to boost the immune system in some conditions like genital warts or kidney cancer. Your doctor will determine if Interferon Alfa-2a is the right treatment for your specific medical condition.

Chronic Active Hepatitis B In Patients Positive For Hbv-DNA In Combination With Tribavirin, Unless Intolerant Or Contraindicated: 

By Sc Inj: 

• Adults: 2.5-5 Mega Units/m23 Times Per Week For 4 -6 Months. Increase Dose After 1 Month If Response Not Adequate, Discontinue After 3-4 Month If No Improvement. 

Chronic Hepatitis C In Patients Positive For Hcv Antibodies Or Hcv-rna With Elevated Alt Levels: 

By Sc Inj Or IM Inj: 

• Adults: In Combination With Tribavirin, In Relapsed Patients Who Previously Responded To Interferon Alfa, 4.5 Mega Units 3 Times Per Week For 6 Months; In Interferon Alfa Naive Patients, 3-4.5 Mega Units 3 Times Per Week For Minimum 6 Months; 

Hepatitis C Monotherapy: 

By Sc Inj Or IM Inj: 

• Adult: Initially 3-6 Mega Units 3 Times Per Week For 6 Months; Maintenance, 3 Mega Units 3 Times Per Week For A Further 6 Months. 
• Children: Not Recommended. 

Hairy Cell Leukaemia: 

By Sc Inj Or IM Inj: 

• Adults: Induction Dose, 3 Mega Units Daily For 16-24 Week. Maintenance Dose, 3 Mega Units 3 Times Per Week; Max 3 Mega Units. 

Aids-related Kaposi-s Sarcoma: 

By Sc Inj Or IM Inj: 

• Adults: Induction Dose, 36 Mega Units Daily For 10-12 Week; Maintenance Dose, 36 Mega Units 3 Times Per Week. An Escalating Schedule Of 3, 9, And 18 Million IU daily For 3 Days Followed By 36 Mega Units Daily For The Remainder Of The 10 to 12 Week Induction Period Also Has Been Beneficial With Some Amelioration Of The Acute Toxicity In Some Patients. 

Chronic Myelogenous Leukaemia: 

By Sc Inj Or IM Inj: 

• Adults: Induction Dose, 9 Mega Units Daily Gradually Increasing The Dose Over The First Week Of Administration From 3 Mega Units Daily For 3 Days To 6 Mega Units Daily For 3 Days To The Target Dose Of 9 Mega Units Daily For Duration Of The Treatment Period. 

Recurrent Or Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma, Progressive Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma, Follicular Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Adjunct To Surgery In Malignant Melanoma:
