Alverine Citrate is a medication that is primarily used to relieve spasms in the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, especially in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It works by inhibiting the contractions of the smooth muscles in the intestine and reducing the pain and discomfort associated with IBS. Alverine Citrate is also sometimes used to treat dysmenorrhea (painful periods) and other conditions that involve spasms in smooth muscles, such as urinary tract spasms.
