Indication Dosage

Indications:
Cisatracurium is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker used to induce muscle relaxation during surgery, mechanical ventilation, and intensive care procedures. It helps facilitate endotracheal intubation and controlled ventilation in critically ill patients.

Dosage:

  • Adults (Intubation Dose): 0.15–0.2 mg/kg IV as a single dose.
  • Maintenance Dose: 0.03 mg/kg IV as needed or continuous infusion at 1–3 mcg/kg/min.
  • Pediatric Dose (1 month & older): 0.1–0.15 mg/kg IV.
  • Geriatric or Renal Impairment: Dose adjustments may be required.

Administration: Given intravenously (IV) only under medical supervision with proper monitoring of neuromuscular function.

Contra Indications

  • Cisatracurium should not be used in people allergic to it or other muscle relaxants. It is not safe for patients with severe muscle disorders like myasthenia gravis. Those with serious heart problems or a history of severe allergic reactions to similar drugs should avoid it. Caution is needed for kidney, liver, or critically ill patients.

  • Flushing
  • Low blood pressure (Hypotension)
  • Slow heart rate (Bradycardia)
  • Breathing difficulties (Bronchospasm - rare)
  • Muscle weakness or prolonged paralysis
  • Rash or skin reactions
  • Severe allergic reactions (Anaphylaxis - rare)
