Ganciclovir is a medication used to treat viral infections, especially a virus called cytomegalovirus (CMV), which can be a problem for people with weakened immune systems, like those who have had an organ transplant or HIV/AIDS. It helps stop the virus from spreading and causing illness.
Prevention Of Cytomegalovirus Disease During Immuno-suppressive Therapy Following Organ Transplantation:
By IV Infusion:
- Adult: 5 Mg/kg Every 12 Hours For 7-14 Days
Treatment Of Life-threatening Or Sight-threatening cytomegalovirus Infections In Immune-compromised Patients Only:
By IV Infusion:
- Adult: Initially 5 Mg/kg Every 12 Hours For 14-21 Days, Followed By Maintenance 6 Mg/kg Daily On 5 Days Of The Week, Alternatively 5 Mg/kg Daily Until Adequate Recovery Of Immunity, Maintenance Only For Patients risk of Relapse Of Retinitis, If Retinitis Progresses Initial induction Treatment May Be Repeated
Oral:
- Adults: 1000mg 3 Times Daily Or 500 Mg 6 Times Daily
