Blood Glucose Lowering Drugs, Excluding Insulin

Indication Dosage

Type 2 Diabetes Not Controlled By Metformin Alone, Particularly In Obese: 

  • Adults: One Tab Of 30 Mg/2 Mg Once Daily Or 15 Mg/4 Mg Once Daily, (the Dosage Of Glimepiride Is To Be Reduced In Case Of Hypoglycaemia). The Dosage Can Be Increased To 30 Mg/4 Mg Once Daily. 
  • Children: Not Recommended.

  • Tab 15 /2mg: Pioglitazone 15mg, Glimepiride 2mg.
  • Tab 15 /4mg: Pioglitazone 15mg, Glimepiride 4mg,
  • Tab 30 /2mg: Pioglitazone 30mg, Glimepiride 2mg,

  • Sulphonylurea

Contra Indications

  • History Of Heart Failure, Previous Or Active Bladder Cancer, Uninvestigated Macroscopic Haematuria, Dialysis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Pregnancy And Lactation.

Lactation

  • Contraindicated or Not Recommended.

  • Rare: Liver Dysfunction.
