Proglumide
Therapeutic Group
Peptic Ulcer & Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux DiseaseIndication Dosage
Proglumide is a drug that acts as a cholecystokinin antagonist, which means it blocks the effects of the hormone cholecystokinin in the body. It was originally developed as an anti-ulcer drug but has also been investigated for its potential to treat opioid addiction and enhance memory. Proglumide has been shown to reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms in opioid-dependent individuals and to enhance memory in animal studies. However, its use in humans for these purposes is still experimental and not widely accepted.
