DiureticIndication Dosage
Spironolactone is a medication primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema (fluid retention) associated with conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney disease. It is also prescribed to manage symptoms of hyperaldosteronism, a hormonal disorder.
Oedema, Ascites In Cirrhosis Of The Liver:
- Adult: 100-400 Mg Daily, Adjusted According To response
Malignant Ascites:
- Adult: Initially 100-200 Mg Daily, Then Increased If Necessary To 400 Mg Daily, Maintenance Dose Adjusted According To Response
Nephrotic Syndrome:
- Adult: 100-200 Mg Daily
Oedema In Congestive Heart Failure:
- Adult: Initially 100 Mg Daily, Alternatively Initially 25-200 Mg Daily, Dose May Be Taken As A Single Dose Or Divided Doses, Maintenance Dose Adjusted According To Response
Moderate To Severe Heart Failure (adjunct):
- Adult: Initially 25 Mg Once Daily, Then Adjusted According To Response To 50 Mg Once Daily
- Elderly: Based On Indication. Initially 12.5-50 Mg/day In 2-3 Divided Doses, Increasing By 25-50 Mg Every 5 Days As Required.
Resistant Hypertension (adjunct):
- Adult: 25 Mg Once Daily
Primary Hyperaldosteronism In Patients Awaiting Surgery:
- Adult: 100-400 Mg Daily, May Be Used For Long-term Maintenance If Surgery is Inappropriate, Use the Lowest Effective Dose
Hypokalaemia:
- Adult: 25-100 Mg Daily.
Hypertension:
- Adult: 25-50 Mg In 1-2 Divided Doses.
Oedema In Heart Failure And In Ascites, Nephrotic Syndrome:
- Children: Neonate: 1-2 Mg/kg Daily. In 1-2 Divided Doses, Up To 7 Mg/kg Daily In Resistant Ascites;
- 1 Month-12 Yrs: 1-3 Mg/kg Daily In 1-2 Divided Doses; Up To 9 Mg/kg Daily In Resistant Ascites;
- 12-18 Yrs: 50-100 Mg Daily In 1-2 Divided Doses, Up To 9 Mg/kg Daily (max 400 Mg Daily) In Resistant Ascites.
