Anti-migraine Preparations

Indication Dosage

Sumatriptan is a medication used to relieve severe headaches, especially those known as migraines. It helps to reduce the pain and other symptoms of migraines, such as nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. Sumatriptan works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain to alleviate the intense headache and discomfort associated with migraines.

Treatment Of Acute Migraine, Acute Cluster Headache: 

Adult: Initially 50-100 Mg For 1 Dose, Followed By 50-100 Mg After At Least 2 Hours If Required, To Be Taken Only If Migraine Recurs (patient Not Responding To Initial Dose Should Not Take Second Dose For Same Attack); Maximum 300 Mg Per Day

  • Tab 25mg /50mg /100mg: Sumatriptan (as Suc-cinate) 25mg /50mg /100mg.
  • Cap 100mg: Sumatriptan (as Succinate) 100mg.

Pregnancy

Avoid Unless The Potential Benefit Outweighs The Risk.

  • Coronary Vasospasm, Ischaemic Heart Disease, Uncontrolled, Moderate And Severe Hypertension, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Previous Cerebrovascular Accident, Previous Myocardial Infarction, Previous Transient Ischaemic Attack, Prinzmetal's Angina, Severe Hepatic Impairment

Lactation

  • Withhold Breast-feeding for 12 Hours After Treatment.
