Anti-virals For Systemic UseIndication Dosage
Valacyclovir is a medication that is used to treat infections caused by certain viruses, mainly the herpes viruses. It's commonly prescribed for:
- Cold Sores: Valacyclovir helps heal and reduce the pain and discomfort of cold sores (also known as oral herpes or fever blisters) that appear on or around the lips.
- Genital Herpes: It's used to manage outbreaks of genital herpes, which can cause painful sores and discomfort in the genital and anal areas.
- Shingles: Valacyclovir can also be used to treat shingles (herpes zoster), a painful rash that often occurs in people who have had chickenpox.
- Preventing Herpes Outbreaks: In some cases, doctors may prescribe Valacyclovir to prevent future outbreaks of genital herpes in individuals who experience frequent recurrences.
It works by slowing down the growth and spread of the herpes virus in the body, helping to reduce symptoms and the duration of outbreaks. Always take Valacyclovir as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
