Indication Dosage
The Hepatitis A Vaccine, Inactivated is a vaccine used to prevent hepatitis A, a viral infection that affects the liver. Here are the indications for the vaccine:
- Routine Vaccination: The vaccine is recommended for all children aged 12 to 23 months as part of their routine vaccination schedule. It is also recommended for individuals who have not previously received the vaccine and are at risk of hepatitis A infection.
- Travelers: The vaccine is recommended for individuals traveling to countries with high rates of hepatitis A, particularly if they will be staying in areas with poor sanitation or hygiene. It is recommended that travelers receive the vaccine at least 2 weeks before their trip.
- Occupational exposure: The vaccine is recommended for individuals who work in settings with a high risk of hepatitis A infection, such as healthcare workers, food handlers, and sewage workers.
- Post-exposure prophylaxis: The vaccine can be given to individuals who have been exposed to hepatitis A to prevent infection. It is most effective if given within 2 weeks of exposure.
- Individuals with chronic liver disease: The vaccine is recommended for individuals with chronic liver disease, as they are at increased risk of complications from hepatitis A infection.
Dosage:
The Hepatitis A Vaccine, Inactivated is given as an injection into the muscle of the upper arm for adults, or the thigh for children. The vaccine is given in two doses, with the second dose given 6 to 18 months after the first dose. The recommended dosage and schedule may vary based on age, health status, and other factors, so it is important to follow the specific recommendations of your healthcare provider.
