Indication Dosage
Hydrochlorothiazide is a medication primarily prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to reduce excess fluid retention in conditions such as edema, congestive heart failure, and certain kidney disorders. It belongs to a class of drugs known as diuretics, which help the body eliminate excess salt and water to lower blood pressure and relieve swelling caused by fluid buildup. This medication is often used in combination with other drugs to effectively manage these conditions and promote overall cardiovascular health.
Hypertension:
- Adults: Initially 12.5 Mg Once Daily, Max 50 Mg/day.
- Children Below 6 Months: 1-3 Mg/kg/ Day In 2 Divided Doses;
- 6 Months - 2 Yrs: 1-3 Mg/kg/day In 2 Divided Doses, Max 37.5 Mg/day;
- 2-18 Yrs: 1 Mg/kg/day, Max 3 Mg/kg/day (50 Mg/day)
Oedema:
- Adult: 25-100 Mg/day In 1-2 Divided Doses, Max 200 Mg/day.
- Elderly: 12.5-25 Mg Once Daily.
- Children Below 6 Months: 1-3 Mg/kg/ Day In 2 Divided Doses;
- 6 Months - 2 Yrs: 1-3 Mg/kg/day In 2 Divided Doses, Max 37.5 Mg/day;
- 2-18 Yrs: 1 Mg/kg/day, Max 3 Mg/kg/day (50 Mg/day)
Heart Failure:
- Adult: 25-100 Mg Daily To Be Given Every Alternate Day Or 3-5 Days Per Week.
- Children: 1-2 Mg/kg/day Given Once Daily Or Twice Daily. Max Dose
- Below 6 Months: 1.5 Mg/kg Twice Daily;
- Below 2 Yrs: 37.5 Mg/day;
- 2-12 Yrs: 100 Mg/day.

- Addison's Disease, Hypercalcaemia, Hyponatraemia, Refractory Hypokalaemia, Symptomatic Hyperuricaemia, Anuria, Renal Decompensation.
