Hydrochlorothiazide is a medication primarily prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to reduce excess fluid retention in conditions such as edema, congestive heart failure, and certain kidney disorders. It belongs to a class of drugs known as diuretics, which help the body eliminate excess salt and water to lower blood pressure and relieve swelling caused by fluid buildup.
