Prazosin is a medication primarily prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-1 blockers, which work by relaxing and widening blood vessels, thereby reducing the strain on the heart and improving blood flow. Additionally, Prazosin is sometimes used off-label to manage symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and to alleviate nightmares and sleep disturbances in individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to its ability to relax certain muscles and reduce the frequency and severity of nightmares.
