Indication Dosage

Prazosin is a medication primarily prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-1 blockers, which work by relaxing and widening blood vessels, thereby reducing the strain on the heart and improving blood flow. Additionally, Prazosin is sometimes used off-label to manage symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and to alleviate nightmares and sleep disturbances in individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to its ability to relax certain muscles and reduce the frequency and severity of nightmares.

Hypertension: 

  • Adult: Initially 500 Mcg 2-3 Times A Day For 3-7 Days, The Initial Dose is To Be Taken At Night Before Sleep To Avoid Collapse, Increased To 1 Mg2-3 Times A Day For A Further 3-7 Days, Then Increased If necessary Up To 20 Mg Daily In Divided Doses 
  • Children 12-18 Yrs: 500 Mcg 2-3 Times Daily (initial Dose At Bedtime), Increased After 3-7 Days To 1mg 2-3 Times Daily For A Further 3-7 Days; Further Increased Gradually If Necessary To Max 20 Mg Daily In Divided Doses. 

Congestive Heart Failure (rarely Used): 

  • Adult: 500 Mcg 2-4 Times A Day, Initial Dose Tobe Taken At Bedtime, Then Increased To 4 Mg Daily Individed Doses; Maintenance 4-20 Mg Daily In Divided doses
