Methyldopa

Therapeutic Group

Anti-hypertensive

Indication Dosage

Methyldopa is a medication primarily prescribed to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by stimulating receptors in the brain to reduce the signals that constrict blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure. Methyldopa is often used when other antihypertensive drugs are not well-tolerated or are contraindicated, and it can be particularly beneficial during pregnancy when hypertension requires treatment to protect both the mother and the baby.
