Indication Dosage

Controlled Hypotension In Anaesthesia: 

By IV Infusion, Or By IV Inj: 

  • Adult: Consult Product Literature. 

Hypertension Of Pregnancy: 

By IV Infusion: 

  • Adult: Initially 20 Mg/hour, Then Increased If Necessary To 40 Mg/hour After 30 Minutes, Then Increased If Necessary To 80 Mg/hour After 30 Minutes, Then Increased If Necessary To 160 Mg/hour After 30 Minutes, Adjusted According To Response; Usual Maximum 160 Mg/hour 

Oral: 

  • Adult: Use Dose For Hypertension 

Hypertension Following Myocardial Infarction: 

By IV Infusion: 

Adult: 15 Mg/hour, Then Increased To Up To120 Mg/hour, Dose To Be Increased Gradually 

Hypertensive Emergencies: 

By IV Inj: 

  • Adult: 50 Mg, Given Over At Least 1 Minute, Then 50 Mg Every 5 Minutes If Required Until A Satisfactory Response Occurs; Maximum 200 Mg Per Course 

By IV Infusion: 

  • Adult: Initially 2 Mg/minute Until A Satisfactory Response Is Achieved, Then Discontinue; Usual Dose 50-200 Mg 

Hypertension: 

  • Adult: Initially 100 Mg Twice Daily, Increased At Intervals Of 14 Days; Usual Dose 200 Mg Twice Daily, Increased If Necessary Up To 800 Mg Daily In 2 Divided Doses, To Be Taken With Food, Higher Doses To Be Given In 3-4 Divided Doses; Max 2.4 G Per Day 
  • Elderly: Initially 50 Mg Twice Daily, Increased At Intervals Of 14 Days; Usual Dose 200 Mg Twice Daily, Increased If Necessary Up To 800 Mg Daily In 2 Divided Doses, To Be Taken With Food, Higher Doses To Be Given In 3-4 Divided Doses; Max 2.4 G Per Day 

By IV Inj: 

  • Adult: 50 Mg, Dose To Be Given Over At Least 1 Minute, Then 50 Mg After 5 Minutes If Required; Maximum 200 Mg Per Course 

By IV Infusion: 

  • Adult: Initially 2 Mg/minute Until A Satisfactory Response Is Achieved, Then Discontinue; Usual Dose50-200 Mg 
  • Children: Not Recommended.

Content

  • Inj: Per ml: Labetalol Hci 5mg; 10 ml (50mg), 20 ml (100mg) Amp.
  • Tab 100mg /200mg: Labetalol Hci 100mg /200mg.

Avoid, Known To Be Harmful, Except Possibly In The First Trimester

Stability

  • Alpha
  • Beta-blocker

Contra Indications

  • 2nd Or 3rd Degree Av Block (without Pacemaker, Severe Bradycardia, Sick Sinus Syndrome, Un-controlled Heart Failure, Cardiogenic Shock, Severe Peripheral Arterial Disease, Hypotension, Metabolic Acidosis, Untreated Pheochromocytoma, Severe Asthma Or Copd.

Precautions

Side Effects

  • Cardiovascular Effects Including Bradycardia
  • Altered Blood Sugar
  • hematology And Lipid Levels
  • Difficulty In Micturition
  • Epigastric Pain
  • Liver Damage
  • Nausea
  • Postural Hypotension
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness. Rare Lichenoid Rash
